What It Really Means to Feel Grounded

With the Fall season here, it’s time for many people to slow down and ground themselves as the weather gets colder, but what does it mean to feel grounded?

Dictionary.com defines grounded as “mentally or emotionally balanced; having a peaceful, practical, or realistic outlook."

Feeling grounded means to feel at peace with oneself. To feel calm. To feel emotionally regulated in the present moment.

Grounding is an intentional practice of centering and emotionally regulating oneself.

Feeling grounded also means being rooted in something and having a strong foundation.

A person can be grounded in their routine, a morning ritual, their personal mission, or anything that provides a sense of stability.

Grounding allows a person to feel stable in whatever it is they’re doing and keep a calmness about them because they have something to anchor them.

Think about it. What’s your anchor? What grounds you? What brings you back to yourself?

Is it journaling?

A yoga or Pilates class?

A morning ritual?

Going for a walk?

Enjoying a delicious matcha or latte?

Watering and caring for your plants?

Sitting in silence, stillness, and solitude?

Taking time for self-reflection on your “why.”

If you don’t know what grounds you. Ask yourself, what brings you the most peace?

When everything around you feels chaotic and overstimulating, what calms you down?

What activities bring you back in tune with yourself?

That’s what it means to feel grounded: to feel a sense of mental and emotional clarity, stability, and peace.

After all, plants grow from their roots first and people are no different. Grounding allows us to get in touch with our inner self (our roots), so we can grow to new heights.

Having peace of mind can provide the clarity a person needs to hear their intuition and learn what they need to do to move forward in life.

Grounding doesn’t mean remaining the same. It means having a strong foundation that helps you emotionally regulate as you deal with the chaos of the world around you.

Today, take a break from the constant hustle and bustle of the world. Remove yourself from overstimulating environments.

Slow down. Return to yourself. Cultivate inner peace. Tune into your soul to better understand how you can nurture yourself and grow in this season.

If you need a place to reset and recenter yourself, Grounded is here for you.
